Drifting Mo

Artist: Sharon Hinchliffe
Asset Type: Mural
Year of Work: 2019
Location: Ned Higgins Lane
Provenance: Shire of Augusta Margaret River
Description: A sweet pup named Mo, adrift in a rowboat on an imaginary sea.
Mo’s family are the owners of Drift Café and commissioned this whimsical mural inspired by the coastal environment of the Margaret River region and name of the café.
They agreed it was perfectly placed facing the park to give Mo space. A happy bonus of the project is all the dogs and their families that come to admire the wall.
One of the loveliest things about calling Margaret River home? That no matter where you journey, and how wonderful the adventures are, it’s always a joy to come home.
Wanda the Whale

Artist: Cara Sanders
Asset Type: Mural
Year of Work: 2019
Location: Margaret River Main Street
Provenance: Shire of Augusta Margaret River
Description: The Margaret River region has the longest whale watching season in the world – southern right whales spend winter in Flinders Bay, Augusta, and 35,000 humpback whales and pygmy blues pass the coast each spring.
Wanda is inspired by the migrating whales that swim through our pristine waters. Try out the Augmented Reality to see if she really does swim – let Wanda fill the camera frame on your smart phone to activate the AR.
In 2019 Cara Sanders began her own migration, a 22,000km journey around Australia, and painted Wanda while visiting the region. Embellished with natural wonders such as a blue wren, dolphins and waves, the shadow effect makes it feel as if Wanda is swimming the streets with you.

The Adnate Mega Mural

Artist: Matt Adnate
Asset Type: Mural
Year of Work: 2017-2019
Location: 900 Hay Street, Perth 6000
Provenance: City of Perth
Description: The imposing 27-storey ‘Mega Mural’ on the west-facing side of the hotel is the largest artwork Matt has painted on a building and, once completed, will feature faces which represent the cultural history and community of Perth.
This, along with a ‘Laneway Mural’, which spans more than 50m long and features multiple portraits from Matt and a collaboration with a local Indigenous artist, and Matt’s interior ‘Staircase Mural’, will completely transform the hotel both inside and out.
“I see this hotel as a beautiful canvas to tell a story about Perth’s cultural and community connection through portraiture and traditional elements,” Matt said.
“My Mega Mural will feature three large-scale portraits. It will represent the past through the cultural representation in the subject’s dressing elements, the present with contemporary faces, and the future as the subjects are the youth of today.
“What excites me most about this collaboration with Art Series is the opportunity to capture the stories and emotions of my subjects and to share them with a new audience in the west.
“I’ve always held a personal connection towards the First Nation people I paint. Whether it be a connection to country or a strong emphasis on spirituality, I believe we have a lot to learn from these people.”

The birds often undertake complex aerial displays where two birds will soar together in a series of patterns, or where one will follow the other weaving in and around an aerial course. These displays often occur near osprey nests, which are large structures made of sticks, driftwood and seaweed like the one located near the Eaton Foreshore along the Collie riverbank. The nests are used year after year so can reach up to two metres across and two metres tall.
