Amok Island
Amok Island (born Amsterdam, 1983) is a multi-disciplinary artist from the Netherlands, based in Fremantle, Western Australia and if he wasn't an artist he would be a biologist. Heavily inspired by early naturalists’ scientific illustrations, his work embodies the accuracy and precision representative of technical drawings, used for identification purposes.
The theme of natural exploration and conservation is a strong and constant undercurrent of Amok Island’s artistic practice. His lifelong fascination with nature and her relationships and history with mankind drive the artist’s obvious appreciation and obsession with his subjects and his urge to direct the attention of his audience to them.
Amok Island pursues a point of balance where minimal shape and colour remain capable of realistically representing a subject. To accomplish this, he renders his subjects to near bare minimum geometric elements of form, and places paramount importance on the use of a carefully considered colour palette.

Andrew Hem
Born in 1981 in Thailand after his parents fled Cambodia following the Khmer Rouge genocide, Andrew Hem grew up between two cultures: the rural animist society of his Khmer ancestors and the graffiti and skate culture that animated the Los Angeles neighborhood where his family eventually settled. Graduating from the Art Center College of Art and Design in Pasadena with a B.F.A. in illustration in 2006, Andrew Hem worked as an illustrator for several years before devoting himself entirely to his painting, expressing his own imagination in the early 2010s. Working in gouache, oil and acrylic, Andrew Hem depicts dreamlike scenes with lush colours evoking ancient or legendary Cambodian history, or showing contemporary landscapes between city and nature, composed around one or more characters. His works seem to reflect moments suspended between memories and dreams. With a very accomplished technical mastery, his work is part of a new contemporary painting trend with surrealist accents.

Artists statement:
Thoughtful artwork allows us pause in our daily lives; for reflection, and for imagination to take hold. It might be something to sit back and enjoy, or perhaps just a glance of colour that uplifts the spirit. By caring about the walls I paint, I like to think that this will be felt, in turn, by those that pass through these spaces.
